I want to be done....nnnnnnnnnnow!
SO looking forward to girls night on Saturday.
I have a Canadian pop music exam in 12 hours. It's 2 a.m. I'm still studying.
Must...go...to...bed...
I have a mix of Raffi, Steppenwolf and K-OS stuck in my head...is that normal?
"Baby Beluga is BORN TO BE WIIIIIILD in the...crabbuckit..."
Hmmm....maybe I should lay off the crack.
P.S. Lost blew chunks tonight. I knew it was a rerun-show, but I thought it was gonna be better then that. After I marry Dom I'm gonna ask him for an hour of my life back.
Bed. Bed bed bed.

There ya go...a little repetitive but hey! I know what I like ;)
I think I may have, like, ESPN or something...
Have you ever thought something was going to happen right before it did? Or have you ever been thinking about someone, and then you turn a corner and there they are?
I had a weird experience this morning. I was on the bus on the way home yesterday and I starting thinking about all the people I used to know. This thought process stemmed from a (weird) conversation I had overheard on the bus last Friday between two people who used to go to Nepean. They weren’t in my grade (one or two years younger I think), but I recognized the faces, and they were talking about what they’ve been doing since graduation. It got a little crazy when one of them starting boasting (actually BOASTING) about how many times he’d been in jail, what he’d done to put him there, and how many women he had impregnated during and after his time at Nepean. Crazy shit…
Anyway, that got me to thinking about all those people you “kinda sorta” knew in high school. You know, the ones you weren’t close enough with to keep in touch, but you would still consider them a friendly acquaintance.
And then randomly, a name and a face pops into my head: Emma Roy. We were friends for like, a week, in grade 9. Emma was one of those people who knew EVERYBODY. And I mean everybody. She was the kind of person who would just pop up at your cousin’s friend’s brother’s house party because she knew the DJ.
I don’t know what made her come to mind. I hadn’t heard from her since she’d changed schools in grade 11, and I figured she would be in Toronto or out West, making use of her skills as a talented artist to scrape together a living. And suddenly I thought, “If there was anyone in the whole world I would randomly run into somewhere in South Africa, 30 years from now, it would be Emma.”
Well it didn’t take 30 years, and it certainly didn’t take a trip to Africa. As I looked down the isle of the 97 this morning on my way to work, who hopped on the bus but Ms. Emma Roy herself, looking not that much different than she did in grade 9. She grabbed a seat near the front, and I was at the back so I couldn’t go talk to her, but holy cow was I shocked!
It’s strange how life works, isn’t it?
And so it begins...
Well geez, you can tell I'm supposed to be studying.
Why?
Because I'm writing on my blog.
Have you ever noticed that when I actually have a shitload of stuff to do, I tend to post on my blog more often then I can afford to, and MUCH more often then I need to?
Yea...
Oh, more news has popped up on the what-the-hell-am-I-going-to-do-for-a-job front: As I may have mentioned before, I have an interview on Thurs. at my old, old work downtown on Queen St. doing work in communications. SO excited at the possibility of working downtown, and that I'll be working in my field, and possibly making the same amount I am now (as opposed to the student salary I would get through FSWEP).
But THEN I had to go open my big mouth and send an email to the woman up stairs at my old work (just one old) who was ALSO supposed to hire me (as a student) to work in communications with HER. Well I get a response back from her which says, and I quote "It seems I have approval
in theory to hire you from my boss but there are forms to complete etc. Maybe we could meet some time early next week. Are you free on Monday, April 25?"
WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN?
In THEORY?
To quote the ever wise and knowing Homer Simpson "In THEORY, communism works."!!!!
It's so fitting that I would get a job "in theory" in communications...theories are the only bloody thing we study all semester anyway, and half the time I don't know what the heck they're trying to say either!!
YOU'RE COMMUNICATIONS, PEOPLE!!
COMMUNICATE!!!
Hoo...glad to get that off my chest. Anyway, it sucks because I job I WANT is, despite the pay cut, the one at Tunney's Pasture (the people are awesome, and I'd be really close to my old office which I loved except for the awful work which I WOULDN'T be doing if I was working in communications!). If they would stop dicking me around, I'd have no problem calling Queen St. and saying "no thank you."
I guess the worst case scenario is that I end up on Queen St. which is not so bad at all! I just wish people could make decisions so that I know what the hell is going on...
Frigging...gah.
Adventures at the new office
OMG, I just had SUCH an Office Space moment.
My printer was acting up, so I went over to look at the error message and in my head I ACTUALLY thought:
"
PC load letter...what the f*ck does that mean?"
At which point I burst out laughing to the confusion of surrounding co-workers...
Hoo...well, I'm weird. They had to find out sooner or later.
Finding time to have a life...
Well geez, it's been a while!
I can't say I have much of an excuse not to have posted between now and my last post, but things were either too busy to find time, or too dull to find something to talk about. It seems now I've been able to strike that always-desirable happy medium, so voila! A post :).
Things have been a little wild lately. The end to the school year was as hectic as anticipated, but it has come much earlier to me than others, so I have no reason to complain. In fact, my school year will officially end later than most of my friends, my exams starting the 25 and ending on the 28. I have a little bit a of a break in between though, which has become both a blessing and a curse.
More interesting news: I seem to have found myself one and possibly two summer jobs! Not at the same time, of course...I'm not crazy (Shannon...looking at you:P). One is a temporary position at Public Health Agency Canada doing the mind-numbingly boring admin work I've been doing the last three summers. It should last until the end of May (or until I hurl myself out a window...whichever comes first). The job I REALLY wanted, the Health Canada one in communications, is having trouble getting their shit together (I'm not bitter), but have said they're going to try their best to get me in for June 1, after my Public Health contract expires. If not, PHAC said they might be able to bridge me in full-time for the rest of the summer.
PHAC will be paying me as a casual, which is a ridiculous sum of money for a student, but I'll be doing work I hate. HC is paying me at the regular student salary (I think around $13-14/hr), but it's work that will not only be challenging, but is in my field. I'll take a challenge over a big pay cheque anyday.
So, I'll be starting on Wednesday, working for two weeks, taking a week off for exams, and working for another 2-3 weeks after that. Then hopefully the mind-numbing will cease and I'll actually be able to use all that so-called communications training I've been hearing so much about. Here's hopin'.
Another piece of news: I signed up for the National Capital Race Weekend's 5K run. I've been training three times a week as my trusty schedule dictates, and with a little will power and a whole lot more training, I'll think I'll be able to do it! I'm really getting into it, and I hope I can sustain the desire to keep at it through the summer and beyond. I'm looking forward to doing the race, not to mention having an excuse to get out and enjoy all the AWESOME weather we've been having the last few days. Yay for Spring!!
And finally: I've made a decision. After I finish my degree next year, I'm going to work my ASS off for eight months, and then take a year off. I'm going to join the
Student Work Abroad Programme and take a posting in New Zealand for about six months. Then I'm going to use the rest of my time and money to travel through NZ, Australia and South Asia (ie Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia...and more! :P). That's the plan anyway.
I just feel like I need an experience, you know? I need to do something big to kick-start my post-education life. That's not to say I've abandoned the desire to do a masters, or at least a diploma, but before I even consider all that, I need a break. I need to be on my own, discover a part of the world I've never been exposed to, and come home a better person for it. I can't think of a better way to spend a year, so that's what I'm going to do.
Whew...see, THIS is why I shouldn't leave huge gaps between posts. By the time I actually get around to posting, I have so much going on that I write far more than I should and say only half as much as I want.
As a journalist you'd think I'd be better at this by now, don't ya think?? :S
