Best songs of all time

I've decided to make a CD of the best songs of all time. Ambitious much?? :P

I've spent a bit of time looking at some online lists, but a lot of that is the sort of Beatles/Jimmy Hendrix/Pink Floyd stuff that's just really not part of my generation. At the very least, I've never heard most of it before, so I kinda gave up on that. Here's what I've got so far:

1. Walkin' in Memphis - Marc Cohn
2. Mr. Jones - Counting Crows
3. Wheat Kings - The Tragically Hip
4. Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams
5. Desparado - The Eagles
6. Lean on Me - Bill Withers
7. You Raise Me Up - Josh Groban
8. Big Yellow Taxi - Counting Crows/Joni Mitchell (not sure which version I like better...)
9. Buttercup - Foundations
10. Son of a Preacher Man - Aretha Franklin

Any thoughts? I want to add at least 1 U2 song and definitely a Phil Collins (hey, he's GOOD! :P), but not sure what else. These songs are all roughly the same "type" of music, so anything a bit more diverse would be awesome!

Really cool blog idea

Hey everyone!!

Well, this post isn't really about me at all. I know, I know you're all really disappointed that I've taken two minutes out of my busy schedule of whining and complaining, but listen up! It'll be worth it, I swear ;).

A friend of mine has come up with a really cool idea for a blog. Ren, a fellow mass com student (Mass Communications for all those non-scholars, and Massive Comunists for all those in the program!) is spending the next few months in Rotterdam, Holland. He's doing an exchange there, and one of his (many) hobbies includes amature photography. He's combined these two things to create a photo-blog. He vows to try and take at least one picture every day and post it up on the blog for all to see, and I must say so far I've been very impressed.

So go check it out! If you're interested in seeing what life is like in another part of the world, or if you just wanna look at some purdy (and not so purdy) pictures, go for it! It might just be my overwhelming jealousy that he's there and I'm not not, but I still think it's pretty freakin' cool!

LINK

GO NOW!

Thank you. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming:

WWWWAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!

Just kidding :P

P.S. For all those interested to know: if you scroll down to the very first picture of the blog; it's of three guys randomly pointing, Ren's the one in the middle with the blond mop-top.

Televidiot

I have a new "thing."

Not sure how these seem to evolve inside that demented skull of mine, but they do and I am somehow unable to stop until my lust for whatever it is, is fulfilled.

This time it isn't anything major (a la LOTR which basically has become a multi-year obsession), but I could use some help if there's any download-obsessed people out there (Tim and Marc...I'm looking at you :P).

I've decided to start collecting episodes of stuff. I don't know what it is, but lately I've much rather enjoyed sitting down on my couch for 20 or 45 minutes and popping in an episode of one of my old or new favourite shows.

I think it might be because I'm so busy this semester that sitting down for a whole 2 hour + movie has become fairly impossible on a regular basis. And TV in general kinda sucks lately; there's nothing on that I want to watch when I have time to watch it.

I've begun the downloading process already (what? You expect me to PAY for these little fits I have? For-GET it!!), but if there's anyone around who already HAS copies of any of these and wouldn't mind lending them out for a day or two, that would make things much easier!

My list so far includes the following:

Family Guy: Seasons 1-3 (for obvious reasons...I f*cking love that show)

Sex and the City
: Seasons 1-6 (just recently got into this one because of the relentless late-night re-runs on TBS)

Friends
: Seasons 7-10 (Justin gave me the first 6 seasons as a present when I got my jaw surgery done. I couldn't play them before cuz I didn't have a DVD drive, but now that I do I want the rest!)

The X-Files
: Seasons 1-6 (I used to be a huge fan of this show, but then it got bad. The first few seasons I really liked--ie until Mulder left--and I wouldn't mind popping one in every once and a while to laugh at the cheesy plot lines and special effects...Call it camp value :P

Law and Order
: OK, there's like 50 million different series and seasons of this show, but I'm not interested in anything but the original, and none of the early stuff. Basically I want the seasons with Lenny Briscoe and Benjamin Bratt-on. I think it's season 6-present. Don't know if those are out on DVD yet, so they might be harder to find...

Dead Like Me
: My buddy got my hooked on this show. I like it, but don't know much about it. Anything available will do :D.

Thanks crew! Have patience...this too, shall pass.

Do I have some sort of DISEASE?

I feel like I can't do anything right lately...I ask simple questions and get responses that make me feel like a bad person for having asked them.

I say I'm going to do something and then for some reason I keep coming up with excuses not to do it.

I ignore people I've been friends with for years, and I'm too eager to please people I don't even know.

People do me favours and then when it comes time for me to be able to do something for them, I don't think to do it!

Is it right for one person to have THIS many flaws?

Am I selfish or just stupid?

Or both?

They must make drugs for this. And if they don't, they should.

Journalism - Indecision 2005

Alright, this is getting a little nuts. I mean, I know I still have a year left of school after this, but how the HELL am I going to figure out what I want my career to be if my mind changes DAILY??

We're really getting into the good stuff in radio now. Yes, my prof is still the devil incarnate, but she's pushing us to do stuff we normally wouldn't, which I guess is good. I just wish she'd stop putting so much pressure on us all. Her tactic doesn't seem to be the "I'm giving you this huge challenge because I know you can do it," as Susan, my TV prof took last semester. Lisa's technique seems to be more along the lines of "If you don't get a story that simulatiously solves poverty AND world hunger, you're going to fail this course and never be as good a journalist as me." Grrrrrr...she drives me up the wall.

But that's not the point.

The point is that I don't know what I want to do with my life after graduation. Yes, I love journalism, but what does that MEAN?? Ok, lets break this down. My priorities for the future are:

a) writing
b) travelling...a LOT
c) meeting new people and learning about new things

Now to me, what that translates to is being the host of a travel show, which in spite of everything else which has changed, still remains my ultimate goal. It's how to get there that's the problem.

I want to do a masters in travel and tourism. But all the programs in Canada require that you have an undergrad in either business or travel management or something of that ilk. The only university I've found that doesn't is this one, but if you look closely you'll notice it's in Wellington, New Zealand. This, of course, is totally not a problem, until you look at the handy little "costs" button on the left-hand side. It has a neat little calculator which totals up all your costs for the year, including things like tuition, rent, food, entertainment etc. The total? $27,502 A YEAR. Granted some of the expenses I could skip out on, but tuition alone is almost 15 grand. Where the HELL am I supposed to get that amount of money between now and next Sept.? Scholarships? I guess, but my marks aren't that stellar. Thanks to j-school I've practically forgotten what an A looks like. I usually scrape together a B-B+ average...is that enough?

The other option is Ottawa's own Algonquin College, which also doesn't have any prerequisits for it's 2-year Tourism and Travel program. Tuition and books here comes out at a quite reasonable $3000/yr., which I can do. The only thing about doing that is that it most likely means another 2 years at home. Sure, I could move out and get my own place, but I just really can't justify spending a crap-load of money like that when I can live here for free. Life at home isn't that bad! The other good thing about doing it this way is that if I work and go to school I'll have much more $$ at the end of it all.

But staying HERE? For TWO MORE YEARS? I won't be moving out until I'm 24...24 PEOPLE!! I'll be living out the stereotype of the 24 year old LIVING IN THEIR PARENTS' BASEMENT! HOW SAD IS THAT?!

And MOST of all, the fact that I want to take a masters in travel and tourism at all makes me think: does that mean I don't want to be a journalist? I do though! I'd also like to be a travel agent, and a teacher, oh and I'd really like to work in advertising, and public relations! I would be TOTALLY good at that!!

WHAT DO I WANT TO DO???

You tell me. I don't know.
