Election Day!!

Well, it’s election-day here in Canada, and though I’m at work right now (shh…I’m working), I have every intention of going out and casting my ballot as soon as I get home. The only problem is I haven’t decided WHO I’m voting for yet. My dilemma is one faced by many voters in many countries when the time comes to either give the current leader a pat on the back, or the boot out the front door. I’m not trying to decide who is best for the job, but instead who is the lesser of two evils (yes, I’m aware that there are four options available, but let’s face it: there are only two parties…). As a student and an environmentalist (not by trade but at least by values) my loyalties lie with the NDP, but with an election so close between the Liberals and the Conservatives, I’m more inclined to vote for the big L. Not because I’m a particularly big fan of having my money wasted, but because I’d rather see Paul Martin continue the never-ending Liberal stronghold on this country than elect a man whose moral values are so wildly screwed from my own that I have trouble distinguishing him from the likes of George W. Bush. It’s too bad too, because (like the Republicans in the US), I think the Conservatives would do a really good job of running this country like a well-oiled machine. They have good ideas and a plan to put them into action. If it wasn’t for the whole issue of taking away our human rights and not allowing women to exercise control over their own bodies, I’d be supporting Stephen Harper all the way. Also, the fact that he looks like a Ken-doll is sort of unsettling…like there’s really someone with the mentality of a 6-year-old controlling his every move (haha, perhaps George W. Bush himself??). Paul Martin isn’t much better. He reminds me of that uncle you never see…you know the one that gives you a really big hug and a “nice to see you!” at family functions but really he can’t remember your first name? Then there’s the NDP’s Jack Layton, who both looks and sounds like a used car salesman. At least he has a sense of humour though…

The fourth option is, of course, the Green Party. The little party that could—but never will, and probably shouldn’t—run this country. I agree with their efforts to conserve the earth and to promote ways in which we can decrease pollution and lessen our dependence on oil (an issue which sooner, rather than later, we’re all going to have to face), and if this race had already been called a landslide victory by the Liberals or the Conservatives, they’d have my vote on principle only. I voted Green in the provincial election because my choices there were the man who made our school system 13 years of hell, and a (and I quote) “reptilian kitten eater from another planet.” The kitten-eater won out in the end and I can assure I’ve been keeping a close eye on my Ginger ever since…

So what am I going to do? The truth is, I don’t think I’ll know until I’ve got that ballot in my hand. I guess it’s true what they say: “democracy is the worst governmental system in the world…except for all the others.” Wise yes, but helpful it isn’t…

Aaaaaaand we're back...

Whew! Ok, so I've been neglecting this for a little while...Things have been a little busy 'round here lately, and I haven't quite been able to make the effort of making this part of my nightly routine. It probably never will be seeing as I'm a master procrastinator, even when it's doing thingsI like...which you'd think would be weird (and you'd be right because, well, it is)

Anyway, first things first: though it's far behind us at this point, the road trip to TO went quite superbly! Zanz and I had an absolute blast, as we always do when left to our own devices, and even the 4 1/2 hour car-ride there and back wound up being surprisingly entertaining. Here's how things when down: we left the city around 5:30PM on Friday (after a few turnarounds and pitstops to pick people up) and headed out onto the highway. Conversations ranged from what cruel names we could name our children ("I'm gonna name my kid The...nothing else, just The"), to how subtley perverted military jargon is ("Why are these men all naked?" "Well sir, those are Major Woody's Privates") to an entertaining, though perhaps somewhat dangerous attempt at trying to figure out which movie the van in front of us was watching on their in-car DVD player ("I see Will Smith!!...I think"). By the time we found Zanz's abode it was rather late, so we just unloaded all my junk and groceries (Zanz's quite belated birthday present) and chilled in her fantastic 19th floor apartment.
Saturday was spent walking, well, EVERYWHERE to put it frankly. We hit Chinatown, Kensington Market, St. Lawrence Market, Queen St., and finally the harbour front before meeting Laur and the Gregger for a fab sushi dinner. The hockey game was on, so for some odd reason we chose to go back to Zanz's to watch it on her tiny tele instead of crashing at Greg's uncle's MANSION in Richmond Hill with the projector and ginormous white wall. Oh yes, now I remember: Laur wanted to see the apartment... hardly seems worth it in heignsight...(kidding Zanz!)
Anyway, the next morning Zanz made me a yummy Sunday brunch of pancakes, bacon and fruit before getting picked up by Greg and Laur to take me back to the castle where Jus was picking us up to head home. All in all quite a successful trip, and as soon as I can bum another ride up there, I plan to reclaim Zanz's couch as my bed and her fridge as my gut-stuffer. Yes...that'll do.

Other stuff that's been happening lately?? Well, I wrote my deferred Journalism exam (finally) and am fairly confident I did...ok (don't wanna jinx it). Mum and Dad took a train-ride to TO to get that nasty cancer business over and done with, and wound up coming back a day early because everything went so well. I was happy to hear it, despite the fact that it meant they were crashing the facy dinner I prepared for The Jerk (aka my boyfriend). Homemade sushi and Vietnamese spring roles. Oh, and I got a job! Part-time government work, and they pay me bucketloads and want to keep me on through the school year, which, I must say, is fan-freakin-tastic.

Alright, I think we're all caught up here. I'll be back soon with some rant or rave or whatever it is I actually do on this thing and you'll all enjoy it very much. Yes, my life is your specticle...and yet somehow I find that comforting. At least it means someone's watching... :P

Cheers.

ROAD TRIP!!

Yahooi!! I love summer soooooo much! Ok, today was bad example of summer goodness with all the rain and the thunderstorms and the non-sunshine, but that's ok! This weekend is supposed to be GORGEOUS, and that's all that matters because I'm going on a ROAD TRIP!

Alright, I know most people don't get THIS excited about this stuff, but you don't understand: I NEVER LEAVE MY HOUSE. Ok...that sounded bad. I'm not a loser or anything, I just have mono. Well, HAD mono. Technically I haven't been contagious for weeks (LAUREN!!) and I've been feeling close to 100% for a couple weeks now. I TRIED to go back to work, but they tell me there's no work for me to do and now I think me boss is avoiding me. Plus, my mom's been stuck with this really awful back injury for the past two and a half weeks and because she took such good care of me while I was in the hospital and at home, I want to return the favour. Thanks to Andrew I was out all Saturday, and the gals and I got out for a coffee/shopping trip on Sunday and baseball yesterday, but during the day it's just me and mum. I try to get out for a walk when it's nice, but on days like today I get stir crazy and wind up using all my pent-up energy bugging my cat. For those of you who've met my cat, he doesn't take to the bugging so well...owww.

So yea, this weekend I've somewhat invited myself on a road trip to T.O. to see Zanz and I am oh so very ecited about it. Technically I really can't afford to go on a trip, even though I have a ride up and back and will be staying on Zanz's couch for free. Still, I'm not working and should be saving every penny for the MegLaur UK trip coming up in August, but I'm going NUTS here, and I think a little vaca would do a world of good.

YAY!!! The BEST part, of course, is that this is (somewhat) yet another MegLaur road trip, and good things always tend to happen when we go places. Granted we're not going to T.O. to see the same people, nor will we be together at any point other than the trip there and back but STILL, things could happen!! We could hit someone famous! Or better yet, find a certain hobbit standing on the side of the road just waiting for yours truly to make his life more..."merry" (don't laugh, IT HAPPENED LAST TIME! Ok, not exactly like that, but CLOSE ENOUGH) Oh this is gonna be so much fuuuuuuun!:D
